Unmasked Invincible is an alternative universe variant from the main universe Invincible.

Appearance[]

Unmasked's suit is similar to the main universe's Invincible. The suit is yellow down the middle, stopping at his waist in an upside-down triangle shape; it also bears blue on the shoulders, blending into the yellow in somewhat of an M shape. The rest of his costume is black, aside from the yellow gloves and blue boots that start from his knees down. The noticeable different is that he does not wear a mask with his suit.

Personality[]

This dimensional variant embraced the role of a supervillain, readily participating in the Invincible War with a disturbing lack of concern for the widespread destruction and loss of life he inflicted. However, a flicker of humanity remains, as he experienced genuine remorse over the death of his friend, William, revealing a complex and perhaps contradictory nature beneath his villainous facade.

Sexuality[]

Unmasked Mark was not spoken throughout most of the episode, however, he was given a line of dialogue saying "I miss William."

Kaitrin Snodgrass, a storyboarder for Invincible, confirmed this to have romantic undertones, stating "William was not JUST his best friend. We put that line in for a reason."[2] She later clarified that this was exposed during a meeting and everyone was aware of it.[3]

Reaction[]

According to Snodgrass, the reveal of a gay variant of Mark Grayson was met with more homophobia than she expected from the fandom, but for the most part she noticed a really positive response.[3]

The "I miss William" line has cause fans to create many fanarts, fanfics and memes of him and William.[4][5] As of April 2025, no less than three variations of the ship formed by Mark Grayson and William Clockwell, including the ship between William and the Mark variant, are among the top ten ships of the cartoon on the fanfiction website AO3, with the highest positioned being in second place.[6]

Relationships[]

William Clockwell[]

The extent of Mark and William's relationship is unknown, but it is inferred that the latter's death was the driving force behind Mark becoming a supervillain.

From the explanation given by storyboarder Snodgrass, in which Mark was revealed to be gay because of how much he missed William, it can be concluded that Mark had romantic feelings for William, but it is unknown whether they were reciprocated.[3]
