Appearance

Yuka has a tall and slender build with pale skin. She has naturally blonde hair that extends down to her waist, and long, thin bangs that are often disheveled and pushed to the side. Her eyes are a dark, vibrant purple.

Yuka can be seen wearing a mix of the male and female school uniforms, sometimes wearing a skirt with a boys' uniform blazer, other times wearing boys' uniform slacks and a girls' uniform blouse. This is a deliberate style choice and highlights their opposition to conformity. When painting, they prefer to wear a French-maid-style apron, which fits her cutesy, feminine aesthetic.

Personality

Ryuji is boisterous and seemingly confident, despite her underlying anxieties. He acts in a cutesy and flamboyant manner, which tends to attract a lot of people to him.

She is closest to their grandmother, who is the reason why she decided to pursue Japanese art. Yuka will often put on a bright demeanor in front of others, and when placed in stressful situations, she often reacts brashly and impulsively.

Sexuality

In chapter 20, Ryuji reveals that she has always held feelings for a female middle-school friend, and when Yatora mentions that Ryuji had confessed to men before, Yuka says he is also attracted to men, making them bisexual.

Gender

Though Yatora refers to Yuka as a cross-dresser, it appears that it is more complicated than that. Yuka rejects gender-conforming standards. They express a desire to look "cutesy and feminine" and in the next breath refer to themself as a "man in love with another man."

They start using more feminine language to blend in more with girls, but they also are willing to show their Adam's apple to a man running a hotel and refer to themself as a man in women's clothing.

Because of Yuka's desires to be seen as both a man and a woman, Yuka is solidly somewhere under the genderqueer umbrella.

Relationships

Unnamed Man

Yuka asks a fellow art student on a date. When that student finds out that Yuka is AMAB, he summarily breaks up with them, saying that he's straight.

Yatora Yaguchi

Yuka is the person who invites Yatora to join the art club. While Yatora initially views Yuka as a cross-dresser, he comes to realize that Yuka's identity is a lot more complex. While Yatora finds them annoying, he still cares about them.
