Nasiens is a genderqueer character from Four Knights of the Apocalypse.
Biography[]
Nasiens is a herbalist Percival meets at Echo Gorge, later appointed as a Holy Knight of Liones and member of the Percival Platoon. They are later revealed to be the long lost child of King and Diane, swapped out for Mertyl years ago. They were also chosen by the Sacred Tree as King's successor and the future fourth Fairy King (title they refuse).
Appearance[]
Nasiens is a teenager with short brown hair with bangs, amber eyes, fair skin and thin eyebrows. Because they do not yet have a defined gender, Nasiens has an androgynous appearance, although at first people assumed they were male. They wear a dark blue suit under a white coat and a white hat. Before leaving Liones, Nasiens is given a new outfit consisting of a green suit under a white jacket with pockets for test tubes, a wider hat, and shoes with long socks.
Personality[]
At first, Nasiens appeared as a calm and collected teenager, who can also be scary at times and rarely reveals their true feelings. Although with Percival, Donny and Lancelot, they managed to have enough trust in all of them to show them their emotions without hiding. However, Nasiens still has some secrets. In general, Nasiens is a calm, serious, insightful and polite individual. They can be very sentimental and shy, because, having been isolated for so many years, they don't know how to show their true feelings. Nasiens has a great interest and curiosity in plants, wanting to be an herbalist like their adoptive grandfather Ordo.
Sexuality[]
It is not officially established in the franchize, but Nasiens could be queer, although they only show interest in Percival. They mention whether they consider a woman to be beautiful, but do not show much interest in any other male or female character.
In Season 2 Episode 4 they are hanging out with an ally from the other party, Jade. Nasiens begins to ask him if he has crush with Isolde, Jade get nervous and sad about his crush that could not be (Nasiens begins blushing and looking contemplative to what he says), then he asks if Nasiens "has a thing for the little one", Nasiens' face gets red and asks how does he know that. Jade confirms his suspicions of them having a crush for Anghalhad (Jade was referring to Anne, who Nasiens mistakes for Percival, as they are both short). They look disappointed and smiles telling Jade that he was right. Which surprises Donny who thought they had a crush for Percival. Later, Nasiens reflects at the window, this scene in the manga, a thought bubble appears where they asks themselves if they are weird for liking a male teammate, who is Percival, even though they are perceive as a boy by their other teammates at this point in the anime.
In Season 2 Episode 10, Nasiens asked about Anne's powers to her, so Anne asked if something happened between them and Percival in return. Which they say that nothing happend while blushing, but then they are accidentally crushed to the ground by Anne's magic (Said magic crush people that lie to Anne). Then they confess that something happend, they got frustated and got in a fight with him. After that Anne asks Nasiens if they "like" Percival. They begin to blush again and doubtfully responds "Yes. I do. At least I think I do. I don't quite get it myself". And they ask if she likes him too.
Reaction[]
The 7 Deadly Sins Franchise (Nanatsu no Taizai) is a shonen anime aimed primarily at a male audience in Japan. So it was expected that most would oppose the addition of the character. Other fans often comment that they would like to see Nasiens and Percival end up as a couple.
Gender[]
In chapter 140, Nasiens mentions that they don't have genitals attributed to male nor female. They are also drawn with curves and soft features. About this, Nasiens discovers it is caused by their fairy heritage (being a Giant and Fairy hybrid), Tioreh tells them that some fairies are not born with an assigned sex at birth, so when they fall in love, they develop characteristics of the opposite gender to the person they fell in love with.
At the beginning of the series they are treated as a boy by their adoptive human father, and their friends also treat them as such, being part of a fraternity. They don't find this very uncomfortable, but actively try to not give away that they are "sexless", by changing, going to the bathroom or hot springs alone.
In the extra chapter 176.5 Anne asks if Nasiens is a man since they haven't been going to the bath with her or Percival, and when she met them again 2 years after, she felt like they were a girl. To which Nasiens looks nervious, and responds that they are turning into a girl and that they are a fairy. Much to the Anne's surprise and Gawain's curiosity. Then mentions that they were developing a chest and other parts.
However, it's still not mentioned if they feel more in line with a specific gender, nor the pronouns they would prefer to use from now on. For translation reasons, Nasiens is going to be referred to with They/Them pronouns since the manga translation is not consistent at referring to their gender nor is official, he/him is still used in some translations.
Reaction[]
The Seven Deadly Sins is a shonen manga franchise, which is primarily aimed at male readers, who are not very accepting of queer characters (since there weren't queer characters before). According to comments on websites where the manga is published, initially fans theorized that they were actually a girl. Currently, people are concerned about Nasiens turning into a woman, saying that it would be "weird" or "unnecessary" to make this change. On the other hand, some fans prefer that they keep their current gender instead of turning into a woman in order to be with a male character.

Percival[]
When they met, Percival helped them save their adoptive family, which made them trust him, see him as a reliable comrade and join his party to defeat Camelot’s king. Later, realizing that they developed feelings towards him during their journey. Nasiens has referred to Percival as their hero and their personal guinea pig, as an attempt to hide their true feelings. Although Nasiens feels insecure about their feelings as they think Percival likes Anne more because she is a woman. Nasiens has put themselves in the line of fire to protect Percival on multiple occasions and has been watching over their body for two years trying to awaken him with potions created by them.
After Percival resurrected when they almost died (chapter 152), he and Nasiens begin to hug and stay like that for some time while Percival tries to defend them from a villain. After that Percival mentions that he heard what Tioreh said before and understands why they were hiding all along. While they return to Britannia, Percival helps Nasiens with their flying ability by holding them and asks if they will turn into a girl, Nasiens responds by asking what does he wants them to be, to which Percival says that it would be cool if they were 'both', to which Nasiens insist on giving them a straight answer.
In extra chapter 176.5, Nasiens mentions that they are confuse as to why Anghalhad would consider them a "rival" (referring to the love triangle between them for Percival), as they think that "Percival doesn't look at them the same way he looks at her", which upsets Anne thinking that they are implying she is not a worthy opponent. After telling her about their transition, Anne asks in an agitated way to Nasiens if they told about their transition to Percival, but they mention they felt weird about telling him. Showing doubt about thinking what if Percival didn't care about their changes. Inmediatly after, Percival comes saying that is time for sleep and takes Nasiens by their hand and scorts them from the girls dorm telling them that being there for longer would upset Anne. This makes Nasiens' face become red and Anne commenting that it's kinda unfair.
