Izzie is a lesbian. She enters the show in season two and becomes Casey's friend while they both develop feelings for one another. Izzie had a boyfriend named Nate, but breaks up with him after realizing she has feelings for Casey Gardner and finding out he tried to kiss Casey. Izzie struggles with her sexuality, and compulsory heterosexuality in both season two and season three.
In season four Izzie and Casey join the GSA alliance at Clayton Prep, when another person in the group shares their experience of compulsory heterosexuality, and dating boys before getting her first girlfriend and realizing she's a lesbian stating, "everything felt so much more me, I don't know if that makes sense." Izzie responded "it does." Izzie was happy to find people she could relate her experience to, and this made her feel more comfortable in her sexuality.
