Belize is a gay character from Angels in America.

Biography[]

Belize is a gay African American nurse and former drag queen living in New York City in the 1980s. He is Prior Walter's best friend and Roy Cohn's nurse.

After Prior is diagnosed with AIDS and abandoned by his boyfriend Louis Ironson, Belize takes care of him, while at the same time being a one-man audience for Louis' speeches in which he makes a number of excuses for his actions.

Appearance[]

Belize is an African American man. He dresses quite flamboyantly, in a way that is typically associated with effeminate gay men.

Personality[]

Belize is both outspoken and down to earth. He doesn't like unnecessary discussions and prefers direct action. He is disgusted by Roy Cohn's homophobia and selfishness, but is able to eventually forgive him as the man is dying.

Sexuality[]

Belize is openly gay, both to his friends and at his work. He dresses and behaves in a stereotypically gay manner and doesn't try to hide his sexuality even when facing homophobes.
